Equal parts your 7" collection from the 90s mixed with elements of early thrash, 70s power-pop, effects-pedal hopping UK shoegaze, and SST-affiliated punk, Detroit's Destroy This Place make loud, catchy, sharp indie rock.

Comprised of dual singing guitarists Ryan Allen (formerly of Frenchkiss Records post-punk maniacs Thunderbirds Are Now!/the one that sounds like Westerberg), John Nelson (late of indie-pop faves New Grenada/the one that sounds like Ozzy), bassist Monday Busque (a Detroit indie vet), and drummer Sean Sommer (who pounded the skins in Allen's post-TAN! punky-pop project Friendly Foes), the band has already made a name for themselves around Detroit with a scorching live show, and a hell of a debut full-length to match - the undeniably hooky Resurrect the Mammoth (released in 2011 on Bellyache Records).

With their new album, simply, fittingly, titled Destroy This Place, the band sought to refine their assets, while adding even more intensity and heaviness to their already pulverizing jams. Captured expertly by Mike Bridavsky (BLK JKS, Rogue Wave, Good Luck, Murder By Death, Magnolia Electric Co., etc) at Russian Recordings in Bloomington, IN, and mastered in Chicago by none other than Bob Weston (member of Shellac and Mission of Burma, producer and mastering man on too many classic albums to list), what you'll find within Destroy This Place is something in line with the recent resurgence of "guitar rock" (did it ever go away?), but with an even keener sense of melody, intricacy, energy, and real life lyrics, all played by some real-ass dudes.

No doubt, these are 11 muscular, pop anthems designed to be cranked.

Destroy This Place comes out 5/14/13 on Bellyache Records.
