The city of Detroit may have been hopping with the Detroit Tigers win downtown last Saturday afternoon, but the real party was just getting started as thousands of hardcore metal fans descended upon The Fillmore Detroit to herald the return of the titanic thrash band Anthrax. Headlining the Metal Alliance Tour with supporting acts Exodus, High on Fire, Municipal Waste and Holy Grail, this stop in town brought them to the stage performing their timeless classic "Among The Living" in it's entirety. Hitting the stage after the opening acts fine tuned the crowd's insatiable lust for all things metal, they charged right in to Among The Living, the title track of the album. With the backing vocals of the several thousand strong Anthrax Army in attendance, the deafening roar of the fans was enough to almost drown out vocalist Joey Belladonna over his microphone. Scott Ian and Frank Bello moshed and slammed around the stage like they were twenty years old again, while drummer Charlie Benante kept the steam engine of drums pounding away behind them, a flurry of arms and sweat flying from his head. If the opening song set the venue on fire, then the next song "Caught In A Mosh" surely almost devastated the place. The pit had grown to consume all who dared to enter the main floor as the opening chords were struck, the rumbling bass line entering in to rev the crowd to near psycho tornado status. The band continued on through the rest of the famous album, with a few other songs tossed in including a cover of S.O.D.'s March of the S.O.D.
