SPONGE Closes Out Labor Day Weekend In Preparation For New Album.
"Stop The Bleeding" due out September 17th
To some MC Hammer closed out the Ford Arts, Beats, and Eats festival Monday night, to most though it was Sponge. Our Detroit based rockers finished up the Labor Day weekend with an energetic set in downtown Royal Oak. Playing for the largest Labor Day crowd in the history of the festival the guys did not disappoint.
Armed with a couple beautiful ladies on poles (Sara and Dee from PoleFit Revolution to be exact), Johnny Evans on saxaphone (from the Detroit based "Howling Diablos"), and an extra 50 feet of microphone cable, Sponge brought it from the get-go. The main stage VIP seats were full and a huge crowd filled in behind them. Frontman Vinnie Dombroski would make sure everyone felt like those VIP'S. Just one song into the show he informed those in back of that extra fifty feet of cable, and that he was ready to use it. Heading out deep into the crowd twice during the show, including during their biggest hit "Plowed", Vinnie sent everyone home with a VIP experience.
The crowd was also treated to a cover of the Ramones "I Wanna Be Sedated". Mike O'Brien from the festivals biggest sponsor, The Ford Motor Company, joined Sponge on guitar for the song. The set also included the brand new song "Fade From View" off the soon to be released album "Stop The Bleeding".
The album, Sponge’s seventh studio release, will be unleashed nationally on September 17, 2013. Sponge will commemorate the release of “Stop The Bleeding,” with “Sponge Day” here in Metro Detroit on Friday, September 13th. They'll be doing a FREE in-store show and hanging out at F.Y.E. in Berkley at 6PM (28297 Woodward Ave Berkley, MI 48072). Afterwards it's onto the big show, a performance from Sponge that evening at the Diesel Concert Lounge in Chesterfield Township, Michigan (Detroit suburb). Doors are at 7pm. For more info:http://www.
