Ferndale Library Calls for Animal Inspired Art
"Menagerie" is a group art exhibition at the Ferndale Public Library celebrating all animals. Artwork will be on display from August 25 – October 11, 2014, in the library community meeting room and atrium. The library will showcase a zoo of all creatures and artwork may depict creatures from any animal kingdom, including: vertebrates (birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish); molluscs (clams, oysters, octopuses, squid, snails); arthropods (millipedes, centipedes, insects, spiders, scorpions, crabs, lobsters, shrimp); annelids (earthworms, leeches); sponges; and jellyfish. Submissions in any variety of medium are encouraged, including photography, painting, drawing, relief prints and sculpture. The display case will be available for smaller 3-D works.
An EXHIBITION APPLICATION and other information needed to submit art for the exhibition can be found on the art page of the library's website: http://www.ferndale.lib.mi.us/index.php/art Artists are invited to submit up to three (3) works for consideration. Inquiries and submissions can be sent to FPLArts@ferndalepubliclibrary.org. Entries must be received no later than 11:59pm Friday, August 8, 2014. Artists will receive notification of their submission status (accepted or declined) by August 13.
The Committee does not charge a commission and will not be involved in the sale of any artwork beyond providing interested buyers with the artist's provided contact information. Artists who sell work from the exhibit are encouraged to make a modest donation to the library.
The Art and Exhibitions Committee is also accepting art loans for exhibit in the library. These loans can include three-dimensional art, as well.
The Ferndale Public Library Art and Exhibitions Committee's mission is to promote and foster an appreciation of two and three-dimensional art for library patrons, through exhibits, lectures, and an expanded collection of art books.
