Photos-Review: Andre Williams at The Cactus Club Milwaukee

Andre Williams/Cactus Club/Milwaukee USA /April 9th, 2011

I recently read Andre Williams has released more albums in the past 10 years than the previous 40. While this may not necessarily be a good thing, his live show is right on track. Saturday night at the Cactus Club in Milwaukee, a nonindulgent Andre Williams played to a crowded and appreciative crowd. Mr. Williams said the last time he was in Milwaukee, he was drunk and high and the concert suffered (I know, I was there). That was not case during this anticipated performance. After two instrumentals from his support band, the Goldstars (Chicago), Mr. Williams immediately won over the crowd with "Agile, Mobile, & Hostile" which he followed with "Car With a Star". Kicking and screaming throughout the gig, Mr. Williams seemed reborn and playing with a revitalized energy. This was especially evident on "Let Me Put It In", one of five songs he performed from his notorious 1998 In The Red release, Silky. Mr. Williams whisked the crowd into a frenzy with a call and response sing-a-long. Mr. Williams kept the show to point, performing crowd favorites "Bacon Fat", "Pussy Stank" and "Mustang Sally". The lone country song of the night was the single from the Bloodshot compilation, "Lily White Mama and Jet Black Daddy". After sixty minutes of sweat soaked, rump shaking tunes, he completed the night with two encores; "Jailbait" and strangely enough "Car With a Star" again. I would liked to have heard one more classic but it was great knowing Andre Williams has returned with a new passion for life and looks to be strong as ever. This was the most fun I have ever had at an Andre Williams show, and he seemed to enjoy it as well.
