Wild At Heart
We are getting close to my favorite eating holiday of the year. I have been helping the family decorate for Christmas despite the fact I wouldn't have minded waiting until after turkey day to do so. I always hate it when I see stores setting up displays right after Halloween but I pretty much avoid most malls and major stores so I guess it isn't that bad even if my bank is already doing X-Mas music. So to hold back the tide, here is Johnny Cash doing a Thanksgiving prayer on Dr Quinn, Medicine Women. I am a little tired with the Adam Sandler song. Just not enough Thanksgiving songs to go around.
Not much else was happening this week though I did go to about 8 performances at the Eastman School Of Music which has become a popular place for me to hang out, esp this time of year. The Music School is one of the best in the country and only has about 1000 students at any moment. You can catch numerous student or faculty recitals or actual jazz and orchestral works. This week I caught a jazz group from by professor Harold Danko who is a noted jazz pianist who has worked with Chet baker and Woody Herman as well as their newest professor of violin, Federico Agostini, who has enjoyed a long performing career in Europe. The level of musical talent is just amazing and anyone looking for a career in music who is naturally gifted could not go wrong looking at this school for either undergrad or graduate work.
This is a feast or famine week for my picks with a lot of great local musicians playing around the area though Leonard Cohen next Monday should be a no-brainer for serious music lovers.
