"HEY MCB! Would love it if you guys checked us out, imbedded us, or whatevs. We are a hard-working DIY band: no PR, book and manage ourselves, and so are looking for people who appreciate good music and the drive that it takes to make it happen.


We want to let you know the latest news that our new Live EP, "Lay That Cable," is done!


As a follow-up to our debut EP "Chubby Dancer" in 2007, it was released on iTunes Tuesday, March 31st. We will be hitting the road on our first tour in support of it in April and May across the northeast, mid-atlantic and midwest, in addition to a slew of NYC shows - AND DETROIT ON 5/1! "


While we are planning to record our full-length debut later this year (of which "Supermarket" is the first single), we wanted to do something immediate that would capture the spontaneous energy of live performance in a controlled setting, and get something out there for people to hear without months of overdubbing and producing.

The sound is grittier and more immediate this time, and still has the melodies and grooves that we think will stick in your head.Like most of the projects we do, it was done for almost no money, spanned multiple mediums, and involved collaborating with the talented NYC geniuses whom we are lucky enough to call friends. We won The Deli Magazine web site's band-of-the-month prize in July, and with it, a day in Grand Street Recording in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

So we went in with our pals Helge Bernhardt and Natalie Mooallem, who shot the whole thing on HD cameras, laid down three tracks, mixed them with Helge,
and later cut a VIDEO for the song 456.

Our friend Jason Whalen did the photography for the album cover. We also hand-made a PROMO VIDEO. We will be releasing videos for all three songs over the coming months. "

DEATH starts new blog website - planning new tour

So its always cool to kick off a friday morning, in particular a drizzly wet
and dank friday like today with a few emails like we got in the inbox today.
The folks from DEATH hit us up about whats happening on their end - new record - new tour - etc.etc.etc. - DEATH was one of the original punk bands out of detroit back in the day but dropped of the map for nearly 30 years until just recently discovered recordings prompted the remaining members to plug back in hit the scene again.

Last night's show at the Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac
was another gathering of folks
looking to boogie on a Wednesday night.
The opening band BLVD (or 'boulevard' as the unabbreviated might refer to it) combined the jamtronica genre with hiphop. Originally I'd checked out their Myspace page which featured far more hiphop. However, the start of their set featured the trio of musicians and no MC as they plotted their course through the evening's set list. After a couple of tunes reminiscent of other such live-electronica acts such as Particle or the New Deal the trio was joined by MC Souleye who turned it from an instrumental act into a jam band inspired hiphop act. As
the crowd filled in with early 20-something dreadlocked hippie kids, and a few early-30s concert going veterans such as yours truly, the band moved between more funky dance tunes and hiphop inspired riffs and rhymes.
After an hour long set from BLVD, and a short break, Lotus took the stage.

Comprised of 2 percussionists, a keyboard/guitar player, bassist, and lead guitar, Lotus definitely packs a wallop. In no time the whole room was moving with arms flailing about in time with the music. For those unacquainted with the 'jamtronica' genre of music, the idea is to create tunes played by live musicians that are similar to music put out by turntable spinning DJs. Lotus combines rock riffs with dance tunes, all the while keeping the audience dancing and gyrating to the beats. The array of effects pedals and digital equipment that these guys have at their disposal is by no means small.
However, despite all of these amazing musical technological toys, the musicianship demonstrated by the band is indeed impressive. For me, one of the great appeals of 'jam bands,' whether they are bluegrass or techno is in the ability for improvisation and in playing so tightly together that the band functions as a single beast. Last night, Lotus showed that they have mastered the beast.

Electric Six - Small Planets East Lansing - Thur April 2nd

From the cold wastelands of the 21st century, the GAROTAS SUECAS were born. With their first appearance in Sao Paulo City, Brazil, 2005, Garotas Suecas (Swedish Girls) is formed by Guilherme Saldanha (vocals and harmonica), Irina Bertolucci Chermont (organ), Perdido (bass) and the Paoliello brothers Nico (drums) and Tomaz (guitar). Influenced by the soul and R&B masters of the sixties such as Otis Redding and Sly & the Family Stone, the band cannot deny their garage and psychedelic origins shown by the fuzz guitar sounds and crazy organ riffs,. Burning the dance floors throughout the country with their unique brand of rock, the Garotas Suecas are also true heirs of the unique tropical rock sounds created by the brazilian Tropicalia and Jovem Guarda movements of the sixties and early seventies.
Sharing the bill with Detroit's own DUENDE! who made their cowboy shirted live debut in November of 2006 and have wrote and gigged steadily since originally assembling for a recording session after a fateful Summer Solstice jam when a thunderstorm blacked out the neighborhood.

If there is one way to have a great weekend its to get down and dirty at a detroit rockabilly show and there are 2 kickass swinging events this saturday night

The Detroit Physcobilly Alliance will be throwing down over at The New Way Bar on Woodward in Ferndale and then Savage Productions will be doing the same over at The Berkley Front on 12 Mile in the downtown strip.

The Donnas hit Detroit - August 16th 2009

MotorCity Casino Hotel presents Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo Live in Concert, with Special Guest The Donnas at Sound Board Sunday, August 16th at 7:30 pm.

Pat Benatar is a four-time Grammy Award-winning singer, Billboard Magazine ranked her as the most successful female rock vocalist of all-time and according to the RIAA she is listed as a top-selling artist. Pat will be performing live in Concert with longtime guitarist and husband Neil Giraldo "Spyder". Neil is a great guitar player, a veteran of studio work and, has played on every Pat Benatar album.

Joining Ms. Benatar for a special guest appearance is The Donnas, an all-female hard rock band.

Tune Town rocks out with 90 motorcity musical acts @ 5 locations during Final Four Weekend


TUNE TOWN BRINGS THE PARTY AND THE MUSIC TO
DOWNTOWN DETROIT STREETS -- APRIL 3-5

Local artists to perform throughout downtown Detroit districts all weekend

To enrich the party atmosphere for this weekend’s expected crowds in Detroit (April 3-5), the downtown business community is sponsoring Tune Town, a music festival designed to bring live music directly to the streets of five of downtown Detroit's most vibrant areas.

Bands and music artists from a variety of genres will bring the party outside by playing in the streets. More than 90 performances by local bands will be featured at one of five locations: Campus Martius, Paradise Valley (formerly Harmonie Park), Hart Plaza, Greektown, and Grand Circus Park. A complete band schedule is available at www.DowntownDetroit.com.

Longtime Detroit radio legend Jim (JJ) Johnson, who graced Detroit’s airwaves for more than 30 years, will emcee many of the local musicians playing throughout the Motor City’s hotspots. He will make rounds at all Tune Town stops and personally introduce the talented Detroit bands.

Tune Town locations will open at 11 a.m. on Friday and continue until midnight. On Saturday, bands will perform from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and then from 10 p.m. to midnight. On Sunday, the music starts up at 11 a.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. at all locations.

“We have an incredible lineup of bands from all over Metro Detroit and as far away as West Michigan,” said Paul Childs, COO of the Downtown Detroit Partnership. “We believe Tune Town will raise the party atmosphere downtown and encourage both local residents and visitors to share in the celebration during a special weekend in Detroit.”

The Campus Martius area will house rock bands. On Friday, Red Star Redemption, The High Strung, Bear Lake, Lucky Brown, Brien Patrick and more take to the streets. Then over the course of the next two days more heavy hitters such as Stellar Drive, Guitar Army, Broadzilla, The Reefermen, Band B, Robin Horlock, Twin Pigs Nuroksol and more will play at that same location.

Smitten by Detroit:

Montreal was a island city that takes prides in smearing, smothering and submerging every inch of food in Gravy, 9% alcohol content beer, street performers and street protesters taking to the street like it's their job, subways that are quieter than your local library.......and of course the influx of great independent artists coming out of the woodwork there. Talents musicians like Patrick Watson, The Dears, Arcade Fire, Sam Roberts, Lesbians on Ecstasy, Wolf Parade and The Stills.

I was fortunate to run into Michigan's own, Kinetic Stereokids (flint) performing at the Le Divan Orange in downtown Montreal. They were on their "Quietly Loud-Pop Montreal" leg of their 2 week or so tour and dropped in to share some new music off their LP "Kid Moves". Saying they rocked hard would be a understatement.
Here is a video clip of them performing and some pictures from that night and a few of the city and some friends I had hung out with. Included is also a street demostration I ran into of protesters denouncing the atrocites and genocide in Sri Lanka.
