Cranbrook Academy of Arts Photography Department & North End Studios is delighted to present NAVEL, a magazine created in the frameworks of a workshop conducted by publisher and curator Dorothée Dupuis within the Photography Department. NAVEL Magazine is a collection of texts and visual works expressing a multitude of photographic practices. Combining structures that exist on different plateaus, conversation is created throughout the pages. NAVEL references issues in socio-political climate, pop culture, gender identities, as well as narrative conditions. The juxtaposition of both subversive and direct imagery reinvigorates the relationship between archaic scenarios and contemporary developments, creating instances that challenge our perceptions of the nature of image making.
