This Saturday, June 4th, is Robyn’s long awaited return to Detroit as she plays Royal Oak Music Theatre with special guests Natalia Kills and Diamond Rings. I say “long awaited” because this show was originally scheduled back in February until Robyn fell ill. The good news for the show is not only is Robyn in tip top shape, the warm up acts remain unchanged. You’ll want to come early for the show to see Diamond Rings perform. As I’ve seen and interviewed Diamond Rings, I can tell you to see him perform live is a singular experience. Diamond Rings is John O’Regan, a Canadian artist that fuses glam, synth pop and dance into an explosion of emotional confrontations of sound and fashion. When I last saw Diamond Rings, I was with about 30 people seeing him play with Think About Life at Pike Room in Pontiac. Since then he’s signed to Astralwerks with a re-release of his "Special Affections" due out June 21, and performed a special acoustic set for Rolling Stone Online. What I remember most about my interview with DR was in reference to his fashion sense being inspired by groups like Salt n Pepa. An odd statement coming from a gangly, white guy, but after seeing him perform it all makes perfect sense.
