It’s a story and performance dissimilar from other SATORI CIRCUS’
performances where the narrator, SC, takes the audience on a guided
tour through the individual and united journeys of a family. They
work through building and maintaining a happy home, keeping sane at
work, raising children, and solidifying identities; all while
dreaming, loving and hoping, growing and persevering.

The title of the
performance art piece “Dbwe’ inini” means ‘man who looks for
truth, and is from the large group of Native Americans, the Ojibwe
(also Ojibwa), or Chippewa, who were found in Canada and the United
States. Many were formerly located around the outlet of Lake
Superior. This name was given to SC by a friend, because it plays off
the Zen term Satori,
which loosely means pure illumination, pure truth.
Co-performers-

If It Looks Like Art Then It Probably Isn't

DETROIT – Galerie Camille is being forced to make artistic lemonade after being thrown the ultimate art-world lemon: all of the spanking new paintings created exclusively for the gallery’s Zombie On The Wall Show by Jef Bourgeau, have been outed as fakes.
Years ago that would have been an embarrassment to conceal, but this new Detroit gallery is embracing the fraud.
“One of our goals, other than selling art, is to educate our audience,” said David Chow, the gallery director. “You can learn a tremendous amount by looking at an object that is not quite right. For the public, it can seem like magic that one is right and one is not. This work demystifies that process.”
The phonies — dozens of paintings on canvas and prints on paper created by Detroit artist Jef Bourgeau— will still go on sale for the gallery’s exhibit on June 12th as if duplicity no longer matters in the world.
“There are a couple works that are too good to be true and a few that are so bad that I can’t believe anyone will take them seriously,” said Edna Pruett, a fiery redhead and local college curator who questioned their origins from the start.
"They aren't true to form, but mere simulations of art," said Edna. "Bourgeau has used computer software to go through all the motions in a few meager minutes that a real artist struggles over for weeks, months or even years."
Chow tried to shrug off the growing controversy: "It’s totally absurd. The show hasn't opened yet and your so-called experts haven't even viewed the work in person."
When polled, a nearby gallery owner reacted with the ultimate thumbs down. "It's bathroom art," said Robert Mann, in a twitter exchange with this reporter. "Nowadays the computer can generate anything, even crap."
"They're the ones tapping into artificial intelligence and pulling flimsy critiques out of the air," Chow reacted bluntly. "How can an artist fake his own art anyway?"
"That's obvious enough," Edna countered, "because he's a fake artist. His technique is not his own, but the instant by-product of a computer program - in conspiracy with an ink-jet printer and some canvas remnants."
Other noted experts have since confirmed that Bourgeau's "paintings" may indeed be counterfeit.
"They don't have the tactile depth and signature strokes one would find in a real painting," agreed Carlos Reed, director of the city museum. "All these properties are indeed imitated onto the canvas, but, when viewed in person, they will surely reveal themselves as flat, lifeless and ultimately unreal."
If given the opportunity, what would Ms. Pruett say to the artist?
"Mr. Bourgeau, your pixels are showing," Edna quipped. "Pixelated brushstrokes do not equal true impasto nor true art."
In a century where much of new art is up for grabs, David Chow continues to insist that they do.

Gabrels is also known for his long partnership with British singer David Bowie, with whom he worked regularly as guitarist, bandmate, co-writer and co-producer from 1987 to 1999. And since the early 1980s, Gabrels has independently pursued an active and wide-ranging international music career from bases in Boston, Los Angeles, New York, and London. Since 2006 he has been based in Nashville, Tennessee.

THURSDAY NIGHT! SPEEDY ORTIZ at UFO FACTORY ON 6/4
Speedy Ortiz is excited to be back in Michigan to play a show in Detroit on 6/4 at UFO Factory. They'll be joined by fellow Allston, MA indie rockers Palehound and Philly based songwriter Alex G.
When considering Massachusetts' Speedy Ortiz, that line from Virginia Woolf comes to mind. Not only for the obvious echoes to DIY, a form and function that's characterized the band's nascency, but in the proto-feminist undertones driving much of their sophomore album, Foil Deer. "I'm not bossy, I'm the boss," Sadie Dupuis sings on "Raising the Skate," invoking in spirit one half of the Carter-Knowles clan and echoing the other's wordplay. And wordplay makes sense, considering Dupuis-the band's songwriter, guitarist, and frontwoman-spent the band's first few years teaching writing at UMass Amherst. She's drawn to the dense complexity of Pynchon, the dreamlike geometry of Bolaño, the confounded yearning of Plath-all attributes you could easily apply to the band's 2013 debut Major Arcana, which fans and press alike have invested with a sense of purpose and merit uncommon in contemporary guitar rock.
The group, including Mike Falcone on drums, Darl Ferm on bass, and new addition Devin McKnight of Grass is Green on guitar, have spent the last year on an almost endless cross-continental touring jag, tagging along with the likes of The Breeders, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, and Thurston Moore. That shift into full-time musicianship brought with it an attendant reordering of priorities when it came to songwriting, and the band members' lives in general. They would get the damn flowers themselves.
"Raising The Skate"
Dupuis wrote much of Foil Deer at her mother's home in the Connecticut woods, where the songwriter imposed a self-regulated exile and physical cleansing of sorts, finding that many of the songs came to her while running or swimming alone. "I gave up wasting mental energy on people who didn't have my back," she says. "Listening to our old records, I get the sense I was putting myself in horrible situations just to write sad songs. This music isn't coming from a dark place, and without slipping into self-empowerment jargon, it feels stronger." Many of the songs deal with a similar sense of starting over, editing out the unnecessary drama. "Boys be sensitive and girls be, be aggressive," she sings on "Mister Difficult."
And while their debut album was recorded on the fly, Speedy Ortiz spent almost a month in the studio on Foil Deer. Falcone's drums are taut, mechanistic; Ferm's bass ranges from the aggressive rattle of an AmRep classic to smoother, hip-hop inspired lines. McKnight, meanwhile, lends spacier, textural riffs to complement Dupuis' wiry, melody-driven guitar style. "The demos for our songs have always had tons of small details and production experimentation, but we never had any money to pay for more than a couple days in the studio, so the songs came out very live-sounding and guitar heavy," Dupuis says. It was recorded and mixed at Brooklyn's Rare Book Room with Nicolas Vernhes (Silver Jews, Enon, Deerhunter), with the record mastered by Emily Lazar (Sia, Haim, Beauty Pill), lending a more polished sound and a pop sensibility that will stand out to existing fans and new converts alike. For all the lyrical complexity and guitar-based excursions Speedy Ortiz have built their reputation on to this point, Foil Deer has a sense of light-footed fun. What's the point of doing things yourself if you're not going to enjoy the trip?

The same year the album was released, MATTHEW was one of five international finalists in Ampeg’s “Straight Up Tone” competition. And the album’s title track was included in NPR’s “Heavy Rotation: 5 Songs Public Radio Can't Stop Playing” feature.
TOMORROW!! Open Casting Call for The Amazing Race
Teams of two, ages 21 and older, are invited to audition in the open call on Tuesday, June 2nd at CBS 62 Studios.
CBS 62 is looking for local adventurers, ages 21 and up, to represent Detroit on an upcoming season of The Amazing Race on CBS. The TV station will be holding an open casting call at CBS 62 Studios on Tuesday, June 2nd, from 11am until 3pm.
The Amazing Race features 11-12 teams, cast to compete to race around the world with cameras rolling 24/7. Teams are comprised of pairs who have a specific relationship to one another, be it family, husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, fraternity brothers, roommates, etc. In each episode, the pairs strive to reach various destinations by answering sets of clues and are forced to remain side-by-side all the while. At each leg of the race, the final team to arrive at the location is eliminated. Each week, the competition gets stiffer, emotions fly higher, and the level of teamwork demanded continues to rise. One team is eliminated each week, until the final pair crosses the finish line and becomes the winners of The Amazing Race. Grand Prize includes a cash gift of $1 million.
Each pair attending The Amazing Race Casting Call will need to bring two signed video release forms (one for each applicant). Along with video releases, each individual should also bring valid photo I.D. (Driver’s License or US Passport). Each pair will be videotaped by CBS 62 and will have a maximum of one minute to explain why they should be contestants on The Amazing Race. CBS 62 will also be teaming up with Forgotten Harvest to conduct a community food drive at the Casting Call. Attendees are invited to bring a non-perishable food item to the June 2nd event.
