Sometimes shows sneak up out of nowhere. They creep up and gently tap you on the shoulder to say "hey kid this is the show you wanna be at." Das Racist with a slew of others, this Thursday at Eagle Theater in Pontiac is just one of those shows. I say it snuck up on me, because I just saw the ad for it last week and it seems like a show I should have known about for months. Das Racist, 3 guys that do a free form, rap that may at first seem like parody morphs and turns into something wholey unique that puts them in a genre all their own. Their 2 mixtapes, "Sit Down, Man" and "Shut Up, Dude" both contain loads of their off-the-cuff, anything goes, rhyming, and by the way, they are free to download!
Das Racist's first full length "Relax" is set to come out Sept. 13 on Greedhead Music. It will have big name producers like Diplo and Yeasayer's Anand Wilder working on the tracks, and lots of special guests like EL-P and Despot. I'll right now give it the title "hispter record of the year" before I even hear it.
So check out their show, and there's some great local rap acts on the bill as well, with Danny Brown and MOBIL.
