Sia, Oh Land and Ximena Sarinana - St. Andrews Hall Saturday, July 23

On July 23rd, Detroit will be graced with three very talented women from three different countries all playing their own blend of creative pop music.

From Australia comes the headliner, Sia, the bold popstar that makes unique pop records of unwavering consistency, depth, and pleasure. "We Are Born," the fifth proper album from the singer and songwriter presents fourteen dazzling songs, produced by noted Los Angeles producer Greg Kurstin. While each song is full of finessed immediacy and stark power and kinetic rhythmic motion, they sacrifice none of the raw emotionality that distinguished Sia's often more inward-leaning and languorous work, both with the cinematic U.K. duo Zero 7 and on her own previous recordings. The new songs comprise a kind of collection Sia has longed to unveil for years.

From Denmark is Oh Land, fronted by Nana Oland, I saw their performance a few months ago warming up for OMD. Having just released their self-titled debut in March, Oh Land made lots of new fans that tour with a set of bouncy, electric pop and Nana dancing theatrically while singing her catchy anthems like, "We Turn It Up."

From Mexico is Ximena Sarinana, while not widely known here in the US, I was recently told she is a superstar in her homeland. Her upcoming album won't be released until August 2nd, but promises to bring Ximena to radios around the country with catchy pop songs.

This will be a special show you won't want to miss because I'm sure a few years from now each of them will be playing larger venues and you can be the one to say, "I remember when I saw them at St. Andrews...."
