Labatt Blue Light beer announced today that it is teaming up with the Detroit Tigers to create a massive 20 by 20 foot sidewalk chalk display commemorating the history of the team’s iconic “D’s” in front of Comerica Park.
Beginning June 30, fans can watch locally-renowned artist Frank English as he creates a replica of the new Labatt Blue Light and Labatt Blue Commemorative D Series beer cans that feature the Tigers’ iconic D’s. English will work through July 2 to create this sidewalk display. English is best known for his intricate mural works around metro Detroit, including Henry Ford Hospital and Grand Boulevard.
“Detroit Tigers baseball and Labatt Blue Light beer go hand-in-hand and we really wanted to do something unique to bring the history of the team to life,” said Brett Carlsen, associate brand manager, Labatt family. “We created the Labatt Commemorative D-Series beer cans to celebrate our partnership with the Tigers and commissioned Mr. English to bring them to a larger-than-life scale. We can’t wait to see the final chalk drawings.”
The limited time only Labatt D series cans feature four versions of the Tigers’ historic Old English “D” between 1904 and 1920. Although the “D” has changed many times over the years, what it represents has not. Fans can purchase specially marked 24-packs of Labatt Blue and Blue Light at local retailers.
The sidewalk art will be displayed from Thursday, June 30 – Sunday, July 3 at Columbia Plaza, outside of Comerica Park in Detroit. Labatt Blue and Blue Light are the exclusive import beers of the Detroit Tigers.
